Homework for the week of Dec. 13 - 17

Monday (12/13) - Brochures and the notes from all stations (Atmosphere Scavenger Hunt, Goldilocks Principle station, How High station, Astroventure website, and Atmosphere website) are due Tuesday, 12/14.

Tuesday (12/14) - Read pages 31-33 (Catastrophic Events book), 'The Source of Earth's Heat'. Answer corresponding comprehension questions. Due Wednesday, 12/15.

Wednesday (12/15) - Comprehension questions from 'The Source of Earth's Heat' is due today. Read the supplemental material on 'Heating the Earth's Atmosphere'. Answer the accompanying questions. Due Thursday, 12/16.

Thursday (12/16) - Lab worksheet for the Evaporation Game is due Friday, 12/18.

Friday (12/17) - Evaporation Game lab sheet is due today.

Saturday, 12/11/10 Problems finding brochure template

Thanks to a parent having problems finding his/her brochure template in Microsoft 7 on a new computer, I have found directions to the template I hope will be easier for everyone to find. Please look under Class Handouts for those of you with older versions of Microsoft Word (ME, and XP).

Instructions:
Step 1 - Open a new word document.

Step2 - Click on the Microsoft logo (it is the equivalent of the file button) in the upper left hand corner of the screen.

Step 3 - Click on "New"and you will see a menu with the brochure option on the left side of the page. (You have the option of selecting a template that comes with the program or downloading one from Microsoft.com)

Step 4 - Under the "Template on Office Online" option, there are several templates that are available for you to select. (Click on "Brochures" and this will Microsoft.com brochures options page.)

Step 5 - Click on the brochure that best fits your need.

Step 6 - After clicking on the template, a new browser will open with an enlarged view of the template. (Click on the "download" button and your brochure will open in a new document. Name and save your document.

Thursday (12/9) Notes and certificate are due today for class check-in. Work on your brochure. Brochure is due 12/14.

Friday (12/10) Work on your brochure over the weekend. Brochure is due Tuesday, 12/14. All notes from each of the three stations are due on Tuesday, 12/14. The brochure is due on Tuesday, 12/14.

Homework for the week of Nov. 29 - Dec. 3

Monday (11/29) No homework.

Tuesday (11/30) No homework. We are finishing a scavenger hunt on facts about the layers of the atmosphere in class. As students complete their fact gathering, they will form teams to work at various model building stations on the atmosphere.

Wednesday (12/1) No homework. Two of the three stations are up and running as groups of students begin to create and explore models on various aspects of Earth's atmosphere.

Thursday (12/2) All three stations (each has a duplicate station) are up and running.

Friday (12/3) Begin working on Station 3 independently. The links to the websites can be found on the right side of the blog. The corresponding handout for the Astroventure can be found under class handouts. The handout for the Atmosphere will be uploaded this weekend. Questions are taken from the website astroventure.arc.nasa.gov.

Homework for the week on Nov. 15 - 19

Monday (11/15) No homework.

Tuesday (11/16) Soil-Water Temperature Graph due Wednesday, 11/17. (Moved to Wednesday).

Wednesday (11/17) Students in periods 7-9 completed the lab five minutes before the before the end of class with just enough time to clean up, but with no time to discuss the homework they would have tonight. As a result, these classes will do their graphs in class tomorrow so that we can have an opportunity to discuss observations, receive instruction on how to: construct the graph, and cover expectations for the graphs. Periods 1 and 2 have completed the lab with some discussion and will create their graphs at home. Their graphs are due Thursday, 11/18.

Thursday (11/18) Read supplement on Characteristics of the Atmosphere. Answer the corresponding comprehension questions. Due Friday, 11/19.

Friday (11/19) Read supplement on Heating the Atmosphere. Answer the corresponding comprehension questions. Due Monday, 11/22.

Bring a 2 liter soda bottle to class on Tues., 11/2. Students that do not bring their bottles will not be able to participate in the next lab activity.

Tuesday (11/2) - Two liter bottles are due today. Re-test is next Monday, 11/8.

Wednesday (11/3) - Read pages 18-25, What is a Vortex and That's a Fact. Answer the corresponding comprehension questions. Due Thurs., 11/4. Study for a the retest on Mon., 11/8.

- Read supplemental material on an atom. Draw a picture of an atom and label its various parts. The part of the atom should be in different colors. Students may use Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask Jeeves, Dog Pile or any other appropriate search engine to find a picture of a simple atom to sketch. The drawing is due Wed., (9/29).

Wednesday (9/29) - No homework.

Thursday (9/30) - Read supplemental material on "What is a Force?" Answer accompanying comprehension questions. Due Fri., (10/1). Note: This homework assignment has been postponed due to the on-going lab on matter and mass. Students should be finished with the lab on Tuesday.
